3 Fatty Acids Burden to Health
Fatty Acid imbalance is a worldwide problem. The following is a list of 3 fatty acids burdens in order of relative importance. In addressing these imbalances, it is important that we focus on maintain a good intake of healthy fats.
1. Not enough PUFA

Low intake of Poly Unsaturated Fatty Acid (PUFA) is believed to be a major determinant of cardiovascular ill health worldwide.
2. Too Much TFA (Trans Fat)

The high intake of Trans Fatty Acid (TFA) in many countries is contributing towards the increased cardiovascular disease burden.
3. Too Much SFA

In comparison to 2 previous problems (not enough PUFA & too much TFA), the cardiovascular disease burden from Saturated Fatty Acid (SFA) is relative low for most countries. For those on a Low Fat diet, it is important we replace SFA with good fats and whole-food carbs (rather than from refined starches/sugars).
